Instant Rava Appe is a shallow fried South-Indian breakfast made with rava and curd typically served with coconut chutney.

Ingredients

  • Rava/Semolina – 1 cup

  • Curd – ½ cup

  • Water – 1 cup (use only as needed to make a thick batter)

  • Green Chilli – 1, finely chopped

  • Ginger – ¼-inch piece, finely chopped

  • Carrot – 1 small, grated

  • Capsicum – ½ piece, finely chopped

  • Onion – 1 small, finely chopped

  • Salt – 1 tsp (adjust as per taste)

  • Chilli Powder – ½ tsp

  • Pepper Powder – ¼ tsp

  • Roasted Cumin Powder – ¼ tsp

  • Baking Soda – ¼ tsp

  • Oil

  • Mustard Seeds – ½ tsp

  • Curry Leaves – a few, chopped

Directions

  • Mix together the rava and curd and add water little by little and whisk together to make a lump-free thick batter. Keep it aside for 30 min. In some oil, add the mustard seeds and curry leaves and once it splutters, add it to the appe batter. To this, add green chilli, ginger, carrot, capsicum, onion, salt, chilli powder, pepper powder, cumin powder and baking soda and whisk well. Add water, if needed.
  • In an appe pan, add a little oil into all the cavities. Brush the oil all around. Add a few mustard seeds in each cavity and then add some appe batter in all. Cook covered on medium flame for 2-3 minutes till it turns a golden-brown color on the underside. Flip and cook it on the other side too. Serve hot appe with some chutney.
