Buttermilk for Baking – Two Ways

Have you come across baking recipes which require buttermilk and you are wondering how to make it or get it right? This recipe of mine should be an answer to that. Sharing with you two really easy ways of preparing buttermilk which can be used in your baking recipes.

Ingredient List

Method 1

  • Milk – 1/2 cup
  • Vinegar – 1 tbsp

Method 2

  • Curd / Yoghurt – 1/2 cup
  • Water – 1/2 cup

Step by Step Process

Method 1

  1. Add the vinegar to the milk (at room temperature) and stir it once.
  2. Let it sit for 5-7 min and you will see that the milk would have curdled and have a buttermilk texture.

Method 2

  1. Mix the curd / yoghurt and water in a glass or a bowl.
  2. Once mixed well, this will be ready to be used as buttermilk in any baking recipe.
