Golden Milk, Turmeric Milk or Haldi Doodh – is a beverage known for its remarkable health benefits and soothing properties for centuries. This ancient drink, originating in India, blends the warm comfort of milk with the vibrant hues and potent properties of turmeric along with other spices, resulting in a truly enchanting and nourishing concoction. Turmeric is a prominent ingredient in traditional Indian and Ayurvedic medicine, thanks to its powerful curcumin compound. Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is well known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties.
Golden Milk is a simple way to incorporate the healthful qualities of turmeric into your daily routine. It consists of a base of warm milk and is then enriched with a blend of aromatic spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and black pepper. Each ingredient plays a distinct role in both flavor and health benefits.
A teaspoon of turmeric provides the drink with its characteristic golden color and offers a host of health benefits. Cinnamon and ginger, whether in powdered form or as freshly grated roots, add a spicy warmth that complements the earthy tones of turmeric. A pinch of black pepper, while optional, significantly boosts the absorption of curcumin in the body. If you prefer a touch of sweetness, honey or maple syrup can be added to taste.
