This eggless Zebra Cake recipe is the perfect teatime cake that is not just beautiful to look at but very easy to make too. 

A zebra cake gets its name from the alternate white and brown stripes that you see when you cut the cake. This cake is a mix of vanilla and chocolate flavoured cakes. The classic zebra stripes are achieved by adding both the batters alternately in the baking dish. Its totally a surprise design that you see when you cut a slice of this cake.

A beautiful looking tea-cake that will impress all!

Ingredients

  • Yoghurt – 1 cup

  • Baking Soda – ½ tsp

  • Sugar – ¾ cup

  • Oil – ½ cup

  • Vanilla Essence – 1 tsp

  • All Purpose Flour – 1.5 cups

  • Baking Powder – 1 tsp

  • Salt – ¼ tsp

  • For Chocolate Part
  • Cocoa Powder – ¼ cup

  • Milk – 2 tbsp

Directions

  • Preheat the oven at 170C for 15 min.
  • Line a 7-inch cake tin with parchment paper and keep it aside.
  • In a bowl, whisk together yoghurt, baking soda, sugar, oil and vanilla essence till well blended.
  • To this, fold in the all-purpose flour, baking powder and salt gently till the dry ingredients are well incorporated into the batter.
  • Divide this batter into 2 equal parts.
  • Into one part, add the cocoa powder and milk and fold it in well.
  • In the prepared cake tin, add both the batters little by little in the centre alternately to form concentric circles in alternate colors.
  • Once the batter is fully added, bake this cake in a preheated oven at 170 C for 60-70 min till the top looks done and a skewer inserted comes out clean.
  • Let it cool down completely before slicing it.

  • Do you have a with egg version of the zebra cake?

    • Hi.. No I do not have an egg version for this yet. But you can use the vanilla cake recipe and in half the batter add cocoa powder, similar to how the zebra cake is and make this.
